Letter from the Board 10/1/2024

Dear Friends at 2U,

2U has felt so full of life in September, with youth asking questions and building community in RE classes, thought provoking services on Sundays, opportunities to learn more about and take action on social justice issues, and so much more! We also welcomed two new staff members in September, Rylee Short, A/V Digital Tech Producer, and Kevin Lowry, Building Maintenance Technician and it is exciting to have them joining the team.

As cooler weather begins, it is essential that we turn attention to supporting the health of our community.  At the board meeting in August, we discussed whether our community COVID precautions continue to be appropriate ways to care for each other when we gather. I strongly encourage everyone to take time to get your fall vaccinations.  I’d also like to invite you all to participate in a Zoom community conversation about our COVID precautions on Tuesday, October 1st from 6pm to 7:30pm.

At our September board meeting, the Board also learned that some of the tuckpointing work on the building that was expected to be needed in a few years time now needs to be done in the next year due to deterioration of the mortar in the east wall of the church.  The BIG/SCOPE committee, the Finance Committee, church staff, and the Board are currently reviewing quotes and discussing options for when and how it is feasible to do this significant maintenance work. Stay tuned for more updates and if you have questions, please email bot@secondunitarian.org.

October also means our annual Fall Fest is almost here! Are you ready to go Over the Rainbow with 2U on October 26th? Visit the webpage to learn more, contribute items for the silent auction, and get your tickets!
