New Member Spotlights 6/1/2024

We are thrilled to introduce Ted Wong and Peter Koval, two new additions to our community! To help everyone get to know them a little better, we asked them a few fun questions. Check out their responses below.

Ted Wong:

Q: How long have you lived in Chicago?

A: I have lived in Chicago for three years. I just love it here, the culture, the vibe, the theater and the food. I live in River North in downtown Chicago.

Q: What’s your number one comfort food?

A: My favorite comfort food is noodles, be it ramen or pasta. Funny thing about noodles is I almost named my wobbly cat Noodles. But since she is wobbly, I named her Trixie instead after the cereal because the cat hops like a bunny while she walks.

Q: Seen any good movies lately?

A: I haven’t seen many movies lately but did see the play “Mamma Mia!” It was awesome. I can still hear the music in my head!

Q: Have you ever swum in Lake Michigan?

A: I have swum in Lake Michigan. I love the beach and the water, which reminds me of the Jersey Shore. It is some of the fondest memories I have.

Peter Koval:

Q: Most memorable Halloween costume?

A: My most memorable Halloween costume was back in 2017 and I had planned the Community (previous church) Halloween party. I had dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera, one of my most favorite plays. I had put together the whole costume from scratch, all the way down to having a red rose, and loved it! It was the first time I had dressed up since I was a kid.

Q: What got you through the pandemic?

A: What got me through the pandemic was my beautiful puppy at the time, a wonderful puppy Cookie, a black and white cocker spaniel. She had come into my life just before and she was and has been nothing but a treasure. This beautiful ball of fur was a true lifesaver.

Q: Do you like your job?

A: My last job I was an administrative assistant/event planner for my previous community in New Jersey. I loved putting together all the holiday events, movie nights, potlucks and the annual tricky tray fundraiser. It was the most fun and unusual job I had ever had.

Q: Have you ever been in a parade?

A: I had been in the New York City Pride parade when I used to volunteer for the GHMC Center in New York. It was just a surreal experience going down 5th Avenue.

Q: Did you ever swim in Lake Michigan?

A: I have been in Chicago for 3 years and have not gone into Lake Michigan. This year I plan to change that. Me and my wonderful husband plan to have a wedding anniversary picnic on the beach this year. Even bought my water shoes. This is the year!

Q: Anything else?

A: I love to bake and cook and love making morning treats on Sunday coffee hour.
