Letter from the Board 12/1/2024

Dear Friends at 2U,

As we move through Thanksgiving and into December, I always think about the song “We Gather Together.” As the days get short and the weather gets cold, we spend more time indoors, and can feel more isolated.  Second Unitarian is a place where we can gather together with others to create light, joy, and community during these winter months.

And we have so many opportunities coming up this December to do just that!  I’ll particularly encourage anyone who can to come join the group gathering on December 8 to make our church building festive during December. But if that doesn’t work for you, there are so many more ways to connect - please see the announcements throughout the Anvil and with the service reminders this week to find an opportunity that makes sense for you.

At the Board meeting this month, we heard from Music Director Carl Kennedy, and also continued a conversation begun earlier this fall about a new opportunity to join together with other UU congregations to take collective action for social justice.  The Unitarian Universalist Advocacy Network of Illinois (UUANI) is creating a covenant and framework for UU congregations to build additional support within and among congregations for taking action and carrying our social justice work forward together. The opportunity for 2U to join this draft covenant is continuing to be discussed among committees over the next month; if you are interested in joining that discussion, or have feedback on whether 2U should join onto this covenant, please email bot@secondunitarian.org

Wishing you all a joyful December,

—Megan Dunning, 2U Board Chair
