PRIDE and Mental Health

Happy Pride and Happy Mental Health! With June being Pride month, I wanted to take an opportunity to highlight and promote some people and places that are doing a great job serving the mental health needs of and promoting therapists who identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The history of how the mental health world has evolved to benefit and celebrate this community is rough and fraught with painful mistakes and discrimination (content warning for hate speech) but I am happy to be a part of this field at a time when things are being put to rights. So, if you are wanting to connect with a therapist who is a part of your community, here are some great resources that you can start with.

Therapy Den “A mental health directory and resource made with love. Our mission is to make finding the right therapist or counselor as painless as possible.” Features a search function to look for specific identities, culture competencies, etc, with the therapist you are looking for.

The Association of LQBTQ+ Psychiatrists “We are a community of psychiatrists that educates and advocates on LGBTQ+ mental health issues.”

Therapy for Latinex “We believe that access to mental health is a human right. We dream of a future where therapy is normalized, more accessible and includes our various cultures. We are so proud of you for starting this journey, you will be an ancestor one day and just like trauma can be passed down so can resilience.”

Therapy for Queer People of Color “We are a group of psychologists, professional counselors, social workers, and administrative specialists who provide quality mental healthcare exclusively to queer and trans people of color. We center anti-racism, social justice, and the intersectional identities of every client we serve.”

National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network “NQTTCN is a healing justice organization actively working to transform mental health for queer and trans Black, Indigenous and People of Color (QTBIPOC).”

Jennifer Kronk is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor practicing in the Chicago area.
